the sights

Hiking

Kaaterskill Falls - The biggest destination in the Catskills for good reason. Drive to the upper viewing platform and hike down to the bottom without having to worry about the huge crowds that come from the other side.

North-South Lake - There's a small beach where you can swim and enough hiking trails to get lost for days.

Sunset Rock - Our favorite hike in the area. Sunset Rock may be the destination but the journey is worth the trip alone. Start at the Catskill Mountain House Site and continue along, stopping at every overlook you can find. There's an unbelievable view of North-South Lake from Sunset Rock. This is the hike to do. Moderately difficult, should take around 2 hours roundtrip. Bring some food and wine with you and have a picnic up there.

Blackhead Mountain - Difficult and strenuous but not terribly long. Absolutely the best views of any hike in the area but you have to earn it. There are plenty of side trails and different ways to go up so do a little research beforehand.

Picnic/swimming

CD Lane Park - There's a beach and a really nice walking path above the reservoir which makes for a nice, easy outing in a gorgeous surrounding.

Colgate Lake - Pack some food, pack some wine, pack your bathing suit. Go here on a beautiful day and lay on the grass and swim in the lake and marvel at how beautiful the Catskills is.

Skiing (and summer activities) at Hunter Mountain -  They make good snow when the natural stuff is scarce and there's a nice mix of slopes. Check out off season for hikes and zip-lining and seasonal activities.

Skiing (and summer activities) at Windham Mountain -  Pretty much ditto to above but a bit more family friendly. Can’t go wrong with either.

the eats

Grocery

PARACASA - Our newly opened pantry and provisions shop just down the road. Also serving coffee and pastries!

Story Farms - Local farmer’s market with incredible produce!

Breakfast/Lunch

DAY JUNE - Our newly opened luncheonette serving updated classics

Circle W - Great sandwich and grab-and-go spot in the area

Dinner

Last Chance Cafe, Jessie’s Harvest House, Zack’s Place, and Tabla - Casual and always a good, local vibe.

Prospect at Scribner's Lodge - Good food and beautiful surroundings

Deer Mountain Inn - Great food, beautiful setting, excellent all around.

Beer/hang out - West Kill Brewery. Our go-to spot. Casual, fun, great crowd. Plenty of outdoor seating and they have a rotating selection of food trucks that come through which are always excellent. An afternoon here is a classic Catskills move.

Farther notable spots in the Catskills: Phoenicia Diner, Brushland Eating House, Silvia, Casa Susanna, Rivertown Lodge, and Stissing House are a bit of a drive but really excellent

everything else

Brunette Wine bar - Located in Kingston, this is a little farther but worth the trip. Natural wine and small bites and the vibes. Stop in on your way up to the house (or back down) or make an afternoon of it!

Elevated Wine & Spirits - For a couple of bottles of the good stuff. You can't go wrong asking for a recommendation from the knowledgeable staff.

Gardenheir - For those little trinkets and blankets and cool home stuff you really can't find anywhere else.

Suarez Family Brewery - If you like beer, there's no where in the area that's better. Pro-tip: take the growler we have at the house and get it filled fresh from the tap (or better yet, buy your own!)
